It's Worth Fighting For

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam
Sam: I know, it's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines out it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

I always think of this line from The Lord of The Rings when bad things happen in the world.

I have to remind myself that when bad things happen, it is spread all over the news and it spreads quickly. The media gives it so much attention, so much more than the bad thing deserves!

But when good things happen, they get hardly any coverage. The media doesn't make money by covering the good deeds that people are doing. We catch little glimpses of the good things but hours and hours of TV time are not put in for those good deeds!

I think if we stop and think about it, there is definitely more good in the world than bad and that the bad things that happen only bring out more good things.

Evil will never win!

My pregnant brain is not allowing me to remember specifics but I remember a church leader reminding us that we already know the ending. We already know that Christ will win.

We already know that we will have a thousand years of peace, love and joy!

So in times of heartache and trouble we must remind ourselves that "there's still some good in this world... and it's worth fighting for."
